Technological innovation and automation are essential for improving the competitiveness of companies. They are principles of the concept of Industry 4.0, which encompasses the new technological needs of companies, and proposes an intelligent factory that allows flexibility and customization of production.
Collaborative Robotics is among the new technologies associated with Industry 4.0. Collaborative robots (or cobots) are changing the way robots are used in industry: unlike traditional robots, cobots are intended to be used in small businesses, directly collaborating with workers. Therefore, these robots will be ideal for getting behind the companies in the Castilla-La Mancha region, which is characterized by an industrial fabric dominated by micro (up to 9 workers) and small companies (from 10 to 49 workers).
At our laboratory, we work with Robotnik's mobile collaborative robots - KAIROS and RB1- to provide solutions to various actual challenges, such as the generation of automatic BIM models of buildings, where robots must collaborate amongst them or interact with people or other objects in these buildings.
